Hi Aron,
Lars and Roland are pretty much correct, but let me clarify. Cloud apps are basically n-tier apps that support Web APIs and are compatible with popular public or private clouds (e.g. Amazon, VMWare, etc.). They do not have to be deployed to a cloud or over an Internet connection, but a Web server is required and the connection between the client and server is HTTP/S (no DB drivers at the client side). Even though it is an app, the client-side can install over the air and update automatically through centralized deployment - this solves one of the biggest headaches of client/server apps. It can also operate in offline mode if you design your app as such. The Desktop Cloud App will support Windows for now and the Mobile Cloud App will support iOS and Andorid for now. Since they are real apps not HTML so the functionality is not limited. Essentially Cloud Apps deliver the benefits of client/server and HTML apps rolled into one package. Please let me know if any additional questions.
